The JWW Lectureship Team is delighted to share that Serene Jones, President of Union Theological Seminary, will be our speaker for the 2026 JWW Lectureship! Please save the dates April 24–26, 2026, for a weekend of learning, conversation, and meaningful connection.

Dr. Jones grew up in Oklahoma and earned her B.A. from the University of Oklahoma, followed by her M.Div. and Ph.D. in Theology from Yale University. After teaching at Yale Divinity School for 17 years, she was named the 16th President of Union Theological Seminary in 2008—the first woman to serve in that role.

Shaped by her upbringing in the Disciples of Christ tradition, Dr. Jones’s theology centers on unity, freedom of belief, open conversation, and unconditional grace. She speaks of grace not as an abstract idea, but as divine love in action—especially in places where life feels difficult, fractured, or painful. Her work explores how grace heals, restores community, and sustains hope in the face of suffering and injustice.

Produced in asssociation with UCCS' Center for Religious Diversity and Public Life.
